When our tutors were asked the following questions, this is how they responded:
- Hobbies:
- reading, playing with my son, spending time with my family, exercising, dancing, drawing, listening to music
Why do you want to be a tutor?
- I love working with children and adolescents. I love seeing when a student grasps a concept and overcomes a challenge. It makes me happy to see students enjoy or trying to enjoy learning. I love helping students learn how they can best learn and remember material to apply in and beyond the classroom.
Why should a student pick you?
- I am patient, understanding, and help students make connections. I help boost students self-esteem when pointing out what they already do know and how that can learn more to build on their knowledge. I easily adapt my teaching strategies and style to best accommodate different students' needs learning styles. School was not always easy for me, but I studied a lot and earned high grades.
I can help high school students with Foreign Language, English, Writing, History and Geography. I can help younger students with all subjects. I am certified as a Spanish, bilingual education and ESL teacher and would enjoy the opportunity to help students who face a language barrier. I work well with students with special needs. I try to make learning as enjoyable as possible for students and help them see that they can learn material they believe is extremely difficult. My goal is to empower my students with the skills necessary to succeed on their own.
Personal Statement:
- I have taught for 5 years. I have taught high school and middle school Spanish. I have taught children in a migrant education program. I work for Boys and Girls Club during the school year which gives me an opportunity to help a variety of students in a small group or one on one setting with several subjects. I worked for Sylvan Learning Center and helped students from ages 4-16 with several subjects. My experience at Sylvan Learning Center gave me the opportunity to help students grasp math concepts that were difficult for them and gain reading and comprehension skills in a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio. I love seeing students gain confidence and pride in their learning. I have helped students move from being solely externally motivated to internally motivated and enjoy learning.
I hope you give me the opportunity to work with your child or children.
